Los ministros, con el apoyo del IICA, tuvieron como propósito estratégico el posicionamiento de la agricultura. Entendieron que un camino para alcanzarlo era difundir la contribución de la agricultura al mejoramiento de las condiciones de vida en el medio rural, así como lo que agricultura y medio rural significan para el fortalecimiento de la democracia, la promoción de la prosperidad, la erradicación de la pobreza y el desarrollo sostenible, objetivos centrales del proceso Cumbres iniciado en Miami.
The ministers, with the support of IICA, had as a strategic purpose the positioning of agriculture. They understood that one way to achieve this was to spread the contribution of agriculture to the improvement of living conditions in rural areas, as well as what agriculture and rural areas mean for the strengthening of democracy, the promotion of prosperity, the eradication of poverty and sustainable development, central objectives of the Summits process started in Miami.
