Resumen

Descripción

Fish is one of the most traded food commodities globally: 45 percent of fish and fish products is traded internationally, with a value of more than USD 143 billion a year. More than 35 percent of global fish and seafood production is lost or wasted, however. There are opportunities to add value and reduce food loss and waste along the entire seafood value chain. However, good national governance and strong policies based on international regulations, tools and guidelines are weak or lacking, limiting international and intra-regional trade. Through the Blue Trade Platform, FAO aims to promote effective trade and competition, improve seafood safety and quality, create new markets and strengthen specialized seafood networks and producer organizations. It will address issues from SME support and seafood quality, traceability and eco-labelling to preventing illegal, unreported and unregulated fish entering the trade.
