The project contributes to improving livelihoods in rural areas and reduction of socio-economic divergence in the north-west region of Azerbaijan by supporting improvement of inclusive agri-food systems that promote local food heritage through Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) and development of inclusive and efficient value chains for selected food products. At the same time, it promotes community driven advisory and information services in the region (both state and private) that are accessible and affordable for rural small-scale farmers. It also contributes to increased domestic consumption and access to, locally and regionally produced agricultural and food products, by supporting small and medium scale farmers and food business operators of Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan rayons to produce safe, high quality and marketable food aligned with the touristic services portfolio. Priority is given to the development of marketing initiatives around rural food heritage, local brands, quality labels and biodiversity resources.
