| dc.description | Food loss reduction is part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 "Responsible Production and Consumption" in Target 12.3: "By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses". The SDG indicator monitoring food loss is under the custodianship of FAO, which developed an international food loss estimation model to report food losses and tackle scarce data availability and limited country-produced survey-based data. This paper presents first the resulting global food loss percentage for 2021, the percentages by SDG regions and food groups, describes available input data gathered from different sources (official, external databases and literature), and the methodology used to produce the estimates. | |
