Descripción
This is the latest edition of FAO work in Tanzania focusing on project implementation milestones for 2019. During this time, we saw youth and adult farmers adopting new technologies that doubled their production, handover of a state of the art hatchery in Zanzibar for production of different types of marine species and restoration of livelihoods of victims of earthquake and prolonged drought in Kagera region. FAO also developed a four-year strategy for enhancing resilience of agriculture -based livelihoods and local food systems in Tanzania. Besides, FAO supported Tanzania in diseases surveillance and data collection, empowered Iringa district rice farmers with postharvest and storage skills, promoted scaling up production and use of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes to address vitamin A deficiency Dodoma region residents especially children. Furthermore, FAO in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and other partners including Rome-Based UN Agencies i.e. IFAD and WFP organized a series of activities to mark the World Food Celebrations across the country including panel discussions, field visits, and food galas, among many others.
