Objectives of the workshop were: (a) to review the status of fisheries and management of short mackerels (Rastrelliger spp.) on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia; (b) based on information generated in (a), to develop a draft management plan for the fishery. To facilitate a full and frank participation of fishermen as much as possible in the workshop’s discussions, the workshop was run in the Malay language. Translation to English was made by Malaysian participants whenever necessar y for the benefit of non-Malay speaking participants. The agenda of the workshop appears in Appendix C.
