Transparency and efficiency for tree planting (TP) initiatives are currently limited due to the manual processes of recording TP data. Emerging technology, not yet highly utilized by TP organizations, could increase transparency and efficiency of recording and managing TP data. EcoMatcher is a technology platform that enables tree data for every tree planted to be recorded easily. EcoMatcher's robust and user-friendly platform eliminates doubts about TP data and is almost immediately accessible by anyone. EcoMatcher's technology in the form of mobile, web applications, and cloud-storage is changing how TP initiatives record and manage data for their work.

Non-profit organizations in developing countries have utilized EcoMatcher's technology over the past three years, which has enabled them to become transparent and efficient about their TP projects. In its current version, EcoMatcher's TreeCorder can capture an image of the tree, location, date of planting, tree species, and the name of the farmer with "one-click" of the mobile application. The data from TreeCorder is saved to the cloud and can be accessed remotely via EcoMatcher's TreeManager and TreeTracker platforms. EcoMatcher facilitates TP organizations to access their TP data more readily and to be transparent about their TP operations. The platform has the potential to raise funding for TP initiatives because of easy transparency and accountability. The technology could as well be leveraged by initiatives like REDD+ to capture tree planting data.
