The 2021 annual overview related to FAO’s work on land and water presents the main accomplishments achieved by FAO over the course of 2021 to promote coherent and integrated approaches to sustainable land, soil and water management.
Our planet’s natural resources – land, soils and water – are at the core of agrifood systems: more than 95 percent of the food we eat is produced on land. Nevertheless, the degradation of these resources and the enormous threats posed by climate change and human activities became more widespread. Natural resources, land and water ecosystems, and the environment are under unprecedented stress, and it is our duty to safeguard them for all of us and the future generations.
Land, soils and water resources need to be managed wisely to ensure that all people, in every corner of the world, have sustainable access to safe, healthy, nutritious and affordable food, and prevent the global health crisis from turning into a food crisis.
