The 6th publication (Volume 3 Issue 1) of the Biosafety Newsletter contains information about key meetings and activities that took place from September 2020 through April 2021 in the National Biosafety Project (Implementation of the National Biosafety Framework in accordance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety). The cover page and the middle pages are dedicated to inform the audience about the several risk assessment guidelines developed through the project and the trainings on using the guidelines. In this publication, the international consultants share their experience with the National Biosafety Project. The back cover is dedicated to inform the audience about the launch of the Sri Lanka Biosafety clearing house (BCH) website by the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, which is a key milestone of the project. The newsletter also mentions about online meetings and workshops held such as the 4th Project steering committee (PSC) meeting, various trainings including monitoring and inspection of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), accessing information through the BCH and maintaining the Sri Lanka BCH. Also included are other biosafety awareness activities and the development of the biosafety communication strategy for Sri Lanka. Further, the newsletter includes synopses about GMOs in relation to agriculture development, biosensors, bio-based industries, health care products and public perception of risks.
