Descripción

Somalia’s food crisis has persisted for over three decades. Ongoing conflict continues to have devastating impacts, driving food insecurity and displacement. Among internally displaced people (IDPs), 34 percent face acute food insecurity, compared with 15 percent of the non-IDP population. This highlights the disproportionate impact on displaced people. Conducting a trend analysis using available data can help identify periods of acute food insecurity, enabling timely and efficient resource reallocation. However, such information remains scarce, particularly data disaggregated by IDP status. Somalia’s availability of time series data, disaggregated by displacement status, offers a unique case study to understand the evolving food insecurity among displaced populations. The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) collaborated on this analysis with the aim of better understanding food insecurity among displaced populations.
