Resumen

Descripción

Prepared by Wong Kai Choo, Professor of Horticulture at the Universiti Putra Malaysia, this document attempts to make up for the shortfall of published information on the economically important longan crop. A member of the Sapindaceae family, which also includes lychee and rambutan, longan grows in several tropical and sub-tropical countries. The fruit is commercially farmed only in China, Taiwan province of China, Thailand and Viet Nam. However, longan is not considered as economically importan t as lychee, except in Thailand - the world's main longan exporter. The publication includes a wealth of information on the different longan varieties, its best farming and harvesting practices and the problems faced by longan cultivators. It has sections on the status of the crop in Australia, China, Florida, Taiwan province of China, Thailand and Viet Nam.
