| dc.description | The evolution of the extractable atrazine fraction was studied in two soil profiles with sedimentologic differences, one alluvial soil and another loessic soil, by means of soil incubations enriched with atrazine. The experimental data were adjusted according to the first order equation, Ct = C0e-kt. The life half-time of the biodegradable fraction increased with depth. Atrazine was more persistent inthe loess profile than in the alluvial soil, (21-154 days and 12-57 days of half-life for the loess and alluvial soils, respectively). In the Ap horizon, which had previous atrazine applications, higher atrazine degradation was detected. The degradation rate (k) was highly correlated with organic carbon (r=0.90; p<0.000) and clays(r=0.77; p<0.000) whereas there was a significant negative correlation and negative with pH (r=-0.85; p<0.000). The significant correlation between k and Kd, evidences that the bioavailable atrazine fraction is governed by retention and degradationprocesses. By solvent extraction techniques, it can be considered the sum of both process, retention and degradation, but it cannot discriminate among them | |
