Biogas has proved to be a viable technology in the physical and socio-economic conditions of Nepal. The hydropower generating potential of Nepal is calculated as one of the highest in the world but only about 12 percent of the population is connected to the national electricity grid. The percapita energy consumption is one of the lowest in the world and more than 90 percent of the energy use is in the domestic sector, mainly for cooking.
