First published in English, French and Spanish in 1989 and several times reprinted because of public demand, the guidelines provide an overview of the occupational, economic and social roles played by women in small-scale fishing communities. Specific guidance is given as to how the role of women in fishing communities can be adequately considered in the design and implementation of fisheries development projects and programmes so that their role can be strengthened and women can make a better c ontribution to food and livelihood security of their communities.
