Global agrifood systems are complex and constantly evolving. Climate change, global trade patterns, population growth, migration, dietary shifts and technological innovation are just some examples of drivers of change that can bring new food safety challenges and opportunities. As agrifood systems continue to transform, foresight is an invaluable tool in preparing for possible future risks as well as opportunities, uncovering potential solutions, and ensuring food safety and public health are safeguarded for the future. This one-pager provides an overview of the FAO Food Safety Foresight Programme, which applies forward-looking tools and methodologies (such as horizon scanning, scenario building and Delphi surveys) to explore how new trends, innovations or knowledge gaps may shape the future of food safety.
