The second International Workshop and Steering Committee Meeting of the GIAHS programme, 7–9 June 2004, was convened to inform members on the progress of the project since the first meeting and several GIAHS-related issues; and to discuss methodologies,communication and dissemination methods and approaches, procedures for the selection of case studies, and strategic and funding issues. The various presentations and the extensive discussions identified and clarified a number of issues that shou ld be considered or dealt with during the current phase of the work and in later phases of the programme, rather than providing simple answers to complex questions.
