Descripción
The GEF is the financial mechanism of multilateral environmental agreements. It was created in 1991 to help tackle the world’s most pressing environmental problems. The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has been partnering with the GEF project since GEF-5 (2010–2014) to support Member Countries in sustainably managing natural resources and preserving biodiversity in a changing climate. To date, the regional GEF portfolio has grown to 30 projects covering all focal areas (climate change, biodiversity, land degradation, international waters, and chemicals and waste). For coming GEF-8, this material has been prepared to provide a piece of general information on the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its projects in Europe and Central Asia and promote FAO-GEF partnership in the region and bring more attention from the stakeholders to work with FAO as a partner agency.
