High food prices coupled with low livestock prices has affected pastoralists' food access. Serious flooding in many parts of the country has caused serious damage, however harvest prospects are favourable. While some agencies do not describe a worrisome food security situation in the short term, IFPRI estimates an alarming scale of hunger in the long term. The Government, helped by international agencies, is assisting the population through emergency programmes.
