This brochure presents FAO’s work on advancing the sustainable use of land and water resources to enhance food security and climate resilience in Europe and Central Asia. With over 155 million hectares of degraded land, widespread soil contamination, and increasing water stress - particularly in Central Asia - the region faces mounting challenges threatening agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods. Through innovative tools like the Land Degradation Neutrality Decision Support System, green agriculture platforms, and targeted country projects, FAO empowers communities and governments to adopt sustainable practices, restore ecosystems, and promote integrated land and water governance. From demining agricultural lands in Ukraine to improving water policies in Central Asia, this publication highlights coordinated, impactful solutions for building greener, more resilient agrifood systems in a changing climate.
