dc.descriptionThis publication presents a community-driven assessment of Houy Mad, a small agrarian village in Luang Prabang Province, Lao PDR, where all 34 households live in poverty and depend entirely on rainfed agriculture. The village faces severe climate threats, recurrent droughts and floods that erode soils, reduce rice yields, and weaken livestock health, compounded by poor market access for cash crops like cassava. Developed under the FAO-implemented, Japan-funded LRRA project, this profile translates these challenges into targeted, community-informed climate-smart agriculture (CSA) solutions. It documents local priorities including small-scale irrigation, drought-resistant rice varieties, integrated pest management, and improved livestock health systems. The publication provides detailed analysis of land use, food security, gender roles, and climate impacts (2020–2024), alongside practical tools such as CSA cropping calendars and a value chain framework. By identifying key barriers, financial, knowledge, and systemic, and mapping support from government and development partners, this profile serves as a practical roadmap for building climate resilience, enhancing productivity, and guiding coordinated interventions in Houy Mad.
