Forests around the world are threatened by wildfires, insects, disease, drought, storms, flooding and landslides, as well as other meteorological and human influences. Each of these disturbance types can lead to forest degradation, which, in turn, causes issues with carbon storage and climate change adaptation and threatens the vulnerable communities that rely on forests for their livelihoods. This project was designed to support the development of a mechanism called Assuring the Future of Forests with Integrated Risk Management (AFFIRM). The Mechanism is expected to address gaps in data needs, information and understanding of forest related risks and to foster the development of an integrated approach to risk management for forest sustainability.
