The establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Soil Research in Asia ( was proposed and endorsed at the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Asian Soil Partnership ( held in New Delhi, India in March 2019 The major mission of CESRA is to support ASP countries in achieving sustainable soil management with coordinated actions on soil protection, management and restoration in the target regions and to mitigate the negative impacts upon food production and food security, as well as sustaining the provision of ecosystem services and climate change adaptation The CESRA Secretariat was established within Thailand’s Land Development Department ( as the Department also hosts the Secretariat of the ASP The CESRA will serve as the regional hub for advancing targeted soil research based on regional priorities, in order to feed decision making The activities in the work plan of CESRA will be aligned to regional and global priorities, as identified in the regional implementation plan of the ASP and in the global implementation plans of the Global Soil Partnership.
