This guide introduces the time split function on the FAO Agro-informatics Platform. The split function allows you to compare data from two different time periods side by side on the same map. By sliding a vertical line across the map, you can visually assess how a selected variable – such as population, land cover, or agricultural indicators – has changed over time. This functionality is particularly useful for identifying trends, shifts, and spatial dynamics that may not be evident from static charts or single-year snapshots. It enables users to explore how conditions evolve, whether to monitor demographic changes, evaluate land-use transitions, or assess the impact of policies and external drivers over time. Through this guide, you will learn how to load datasets that support the split function, select different time periods, and adjust the split view for direct comparison. This tool is valuable for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners who need clear, visual evidence of temporal changes to support analysis, planning, and decision-making.
