Price of maize remained steady in the capital, but slightly higher than last year. Food security remains generally stable, but localised production declines could affect areas in the south that experienced a dry-spell in early 2011. Despite stable supply to markets thanks to increased maize production, poorer people in southern districts face access difficulties. The Government supported an estimated 1.5 million households with input subsidies for the 2010/11 season, but consumers are af fected by re-imposition of import duties.
