The Coastal Fisheries Initiative project in West Africa was implemented by FAO from 2017 to 2024 in Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, and Senegal, with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This project aimed to support the sustainable development of coastal fisheries, with a focus on artisanal fishing and the inclusion of women in fish processing. This is its final evaluation. The evaluation concluded that the project was relevant and technically sound, with strong stakeholder support. However, its effectiveness was limited by external challenges, and its sustainability could be threatened without additional funding. Recommendations include improving gender integration, anticipating environmental impacts, and strengthening financial planning and monitoring. This evaluation aims to inform policymakers, donors, and practitioners working in the field of sustainable fisheries and inclusive development.
