The Q3 2025 Newsletter of the FAO Subregional Office for West Africa highlights the Organization’s work across 15 countries to accelerate agricultural transformation, climate resilience, and inclusive development. It features flagship initiatives such as the USD222 million SURAGGWA project to scale up land restoration under the Great Green Wall and the Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum in Nigeria to mobilize agricultural financing across the Sahel. The newsletter also spotlights FAO’s participation in the Africa Food Systems Forum 2025 in Dakar, which emphasized the role of youth as a driving force for agrifood systems transformation. Country stories illustrate FAO’s impact at community level: mangrove restoration in Benin, climate-resilient rice farming in Burkina Faso, ocean conservation and fisheries promotion in Cabo Verde, circular-economy learning exchanges in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, women’s empowerment through improved fish-processing in Gambia and Liberia, digital veterinary surveillance in Ghana, youth employment in Guinea, women’s financial inclusion in Guinea-Bissau, dike rehabilitation for food security in Mali, peacebuilding through rural women’s initiatives in Niger, policy reform and vocational training in Nigeria, youth agripreneurship in Senegal, land governance for peace in Sierra Leone, and pesticide management training in Togo. Together, these actions reflect FAO’s regional strategy built on sustainable resource management, agrifood systems transformation, and capacity building, reaffirming the Organization’s commitment to innovation, partnership, and resilience for a food-secure and prosperous West Africa.
