The FAO FishFinder Programme produces identification tools for fishery purposes. To date the Programme has described over 8000 aquatic species and has an archive for more than 40000 scientifically reviewed species drawings. This information is organized in many publications accessible on the FAO web pages (<a target=new href="http://www.fao.org/fishery/sidp/en">http://www.fao.org/fishery/sidp/en</a>). This FAO FishFinder pocket guide was developed to assist in the quick field identification of i mportant commercial species and can be useful to: ichthyologists; fishery data collectors, observers and inspectors; consumers; fishery science teachers; and everybody else interested in the marine fauna and fisheries of Kenya. The FAO FishFinder pocket guide user must keep in mind that he/she will encounter many other and often similar marine species in the landings and at the markets. To help identify these species a mini disc is included containing more comprehensive FAO identification guides for fishery resources in the Western Indian Ocean.
