Malawi faces many challenges in pesticide management, from importation to disposal, and falls short of compliance to standards stipulated in international chemical conventions. Pesticide risks are further heightened by heavy pest pressure as a result of climate change and increased chemical use as the country intensifies agricultural production to meet food demands from rapid production growth. This project was designed to address these challenges and support Malawi in pesticide management. This included supporting safe disposal, developing a pilot management system for empty containers, strengthening national capacity and promoting the adoption of alternatives to chemical pesticides.
