This report presents the findings from a qualitative assessment of the structural drivers of gender-based violence (GBV) in Lake Tanganyika kapenta fishery communities, focusing on Zambia's Mpulungu and Nsama districts. The study was conducted by the Institute of Research & Development in Lusaka under the FISH4ACP initiative. FISH4ACP, an initiative of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with funding from the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the Lake Tanganyika small pelagics value chain in Zambia. This assessment contributes to that objective by analysing structural and socio-economic factors that influence GBV risks in fishing communities, providing evidence to inform inclusive and socially responsible value chain interventions.
