The Second Technical Consultation on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing was held in Rome, Italy, on 22 and 23 February 2001. Fifty-seven (57) Members of FAO and observers from one non-Member Nation of FAO attended the Consultation. Representatives from a specialized agency of the United Nations attended as well as observers from twelve intergovernmental organizations and seven international non-governmental organizations. The Consultation worked towards finalizing a draft Internat ional Plan of Action to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IPOA-IUU), for the consideration of the Twenty-fourth Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) which met at FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy, from 26 February to 2 March 2001. Discussion within the Consultation was based upon the Draft IPOA-IUU produced by the first Session of the Technical Consultation on IUU Fishing (FAO Fisheries Report No. 634) which met in Rome, Italy, from 2 to 6 October 2000 . The report of the Second Technical Consultation on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, including the revised draft IPOA-IUU, was adopted on 23 February 2001 with the request that the report of the meeting be submitted to the Twenty-fourth Session of the Committee on Fisheries for consideration and eventual adoption.
