dc.descriptionThe Fourth Global Conference of the World Banana Forum (WBF) took place at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, on 12 and 13 March 2024. Moreover, the following three side-events were held: the Third International Meeting on Gender Equity in the Banana Industry on March 11, the Event on Fusarium Wilt TR4 and the Future of the Banana Industry on 11 March and the Global Conference on Living Wages and Living Income in the Banana Industry on 14 March. This four-day series of events brought together over 230 participants representing a broad spectrum of supply chain actors from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, and provided an opportunity to share knowledge on the most pressing issues confronting the industry worldwide and explore avenues for multistakeholder and international collaboration. The Global Conference and its side-events addressed various topics related to the sustainability of the banana industry, encompassing climate change adaptation and mitigation, the threat of Fusarium Wilt TR4, distribution of value and shared responsibility along the supply chain, living wages and income, due diligence legislation, labour rights, decent work, and gender equity. This report provides a summary of the key outcomes and discussions that took place during the panel sessions held on 12 and 13 March 2024. In addition, it includes an executive summary of the side events.
