This publication, Greenhouse: A Climate-Smart Agriculture Technology Catalogue, provides a comprehensive and practical guide for smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and agricultural technicians on the adoption of greenhouse technology. In response to the growing threats of climate change, including extreme weather, water scarcity, and increased crop losses, this catalogue promotes greenhouses as a key climate-smart agriculture (CSA) solution. By creating a controlled microclimate and protection shed, greenhouses protect crops from environmental stresses, enabling year-round production and significantly enhancing resilience. The guide details how this technology contributes to all three pillars of CSA: it builds resilience by shielding crops from extreme events and stabilizing household income; it supports sustainable intensification by boosting yields by 30-50% while dramatically improving input efficiency (saving 30-70% of water and reducing pesticide use); and it can contribute to mitigation by lowering the carbon footprint per kilogram of food produced. Focusing on accessibility, the catalogue presents a low-cost bamboo greenhouse design using locally available materials, complemented by clear, step-by-step construction phases, essential management practices, and strategies for overcoming financial and technical barriers. Ultimately, this resource aims to empower farming communities in the Lao People's Democratic Republic and beyond to transition toward more productive, sustainable, and climate-resilient agricultural systems.
