As part of its commitment to strengthening One Health education in the region, the Capacitating One Health in Eastern and Southern Africa (COHESA) project, led by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in collaboration with the University of Pretoria, hosted two five-day pedagogy and technology integration workshops; in Entebbe, Uganda, from 7 to 11 July 2025 and Windhoek, Namibia, from 15-19 September 2025. The first workshop brought together 24 educators from higher education institutions across six COHESA Eastern Africa countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda) alongside consortium members. For the second workshop, 26 participants were drawn from COHESA countries in Southern Africa (Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe) to engage in collaborative learning and professional development. The primary aim of the workshop was to build participants’ capacity to apply modern, student-centred teaching methods and integrate technology meaningfully into their educational practice. With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, engagement strategies, and interdisciplinary thinking, the workshop sought to support educators in embedding One Health principles in their classrooms in ways that are contextually relevant, pedagogically sound, and future-facing. This initiative aligns with COHESA’s broader goal of creating an inclusive research and innovation ecosystem that enables the uptake, adaptation, and adoption of locally driven solutions to challenges best addressed through a One Health approach.
