dc.descriptionLos criterios e indicadores para evaluar el manejo forestal (C y I) facilitan el entendimiento de la sostenibilidad y la comunicación de este tema. Aprovechando este potencial, un creciente número de iniciativas nacionales e internacionales han definido conjuntos de C y I para la certificación, el monitoreo y la auditoría del manejo forestal. Los distintos usos de los C y I y la diversidad de actores involucrados dan como resultado una gran variedad de exigencias en cuanto a la aplicación de C y I en el campo, su evaluación e interpretación. Con base en una revisión de las iniciativas en América Latina, experiencias del Centro Internacional de Investigación Forestal (CIFOR) y consultas a especialistas, en este trabajo se identifican y discuten las exigencias relacionadas con la utilización de C y I y sus implicaciones prácticas.
dc.descriptionCriteria and indicators to evaluate forest management (C and I) facilitate the understanding of and communication about sustainability. Thus an increasing number of national and international initiatives defined C&I sets for certification, monitoring and auditing of forest management. Because of the variety of C and I applications and the heterogeneity of C and I users, the demands and requirements on C and I in relation to application, evaluation and interpretation are diverse. Based on a revision of C and I initiatives in Latin America, experiences made by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and consultations with experts, the paper identifies and discusses the demands and requirements related to the application of C and I and its practical implications.
