dc.descriptionTwenty nine secondary forest stands with ages over four years were studied near Pucalipa in the Peruvian Amazon. Altogether 102 plant species 10 + cm dbh were recorded in the forest inventories. The most frequent species use group was timber, both in terms of number of species as well as abundance, being thus the main production objective for secondary forest management. Guazuma crinita (bolaina blanca), a tree species commercially used in construction housing, was the most important in secondary forest stands over 10 years old. The production potential of the secondary forest stands studied lies above all in the high number of social and economic useful timber and non-timber forest species, both for home consumption and for local trade.
