dc.descriptionAbstract: LCA is a methodology originally proposed for industrial processes. This technique involves accounting the material and energy flows exchanged between the place where production processes occurs and the environment, and assumes closure of mass balances. In a physically limited structure (like manufacturing settings), these flows can be controlled. Atmospheric emissions, liquid effluents, and solid waste must be treated and reported in accordance with environmental legislation. Agricultural processes 2 take place in the open, with no physical boundaries between the production space and the natural environment. For this reason, many outflows are not quantifiable but instead are estimated by models, and depend on specific parameters of climate, soil, plant characteristics, and aspects related to nutritional and plant health management.
