Segunda conferencia magistral del Evento Internacional sobre Agricultura Tropical Sustentable, dictada por Beatriz Paredes Rangel, Embajadora de Buena Voluntad del IICA. La ponencia analiza el tejido social y cultural del trópico en México y Mesoamérica, destacando la convivencia entre comunidades ejidales, pueblos indígenas y la pequeña producción campesina. Se critica el histórico rezago educativo en el agro tropical y se propone crear una institución de posgrado especializada en Chiapas junto al CATIE. Finalmente, plantea una estrategia integral con financiamiento, apoyo a mujeres y jóvenes, y preservación de tradiciones para frenar la deforestación.
Second keynote lecture of the International Event on Sustainable Tropical Agriculture, delivered by Beatriz Paredes Rangel, IICA Goodwill Ambassador. The presentation analyzes the social and cultural fabric of the tropics in Mexico and Mesoamerica, highlighting the coexistence among communal lands (ejidos), indigenous communities, and smallholder farming. It critiques the historical educational gap in tropical agriculture and proposes establishing a specialized postgraduate institution in Chiapas alongside CATIE. Finally, it outlines an integrated strategy featuring financing, support for women and youth, and the preservation of traditions to halt deforestation.
