In February 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO) Data in Emergencies (DIEM) conducted an assessment in the eastern provinces of Chad (Ouaddaï, Sila and Wadi Fira) to analyse the impact of conflict and displacement on agricultural livelihoods and food security. The analysis is based on qualitative and quantitative data collected from 5 257 permanent residents, and 363 Chadian refugee and returnee households. FAO's DIEM-Impact provides rapid and detailed analyses of the effects of major crises on agriculture, combining various sources of information: primary and secondary data, remote sensing, damage and loss assessment methodology, among others. This assessment sheds light on the food insecurity situation in a context of high vulnerability and supports evidence-based planning.
