Launched in 2023, the FAO SDG Agrifood Accelerator Programme aimed to strengthen and scale agrifood micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs), while enhancing their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This pilot initiative, technically supported by SEED, nurtured innovative solutions for agrifood systems by building the capacity of small agrifood enterprises to scale their businesses in ways that generate multiple benefits simultaneously, including creating economic and employment opportunities, strengthening local agrifood systems, safeguarding the environment and improving nutrition. In addition to highlighting results and lessons learned from the programme, this report presents the challenges eco-inclusive agrifood MSMEs can face in scaling up their operations. It outlines practical strategies to help overcome these barriers, with the aim of fostering more resilient and inclusive agrifood systems. Finally, by identifying actionable solutions and priority areas for intervention, the report offers a way forward for advancing the SDGs through targeted business incubation support for small agrifood enterprises.
