Resumen

Descripción

Newcastle is a relatively small community located in Nevis. The area is known for its beaches and is adjacent to the largest coral reef system and sea grass bed in Saint Kitts & Nevis. The fishers of Newcastle have a big reputation for the colourful species of fish caught such as parrot fish. Most of the fishers in the area are part-time fishers. However, due to their reputation, communities all around Nevis race to the Newcastle Bay landing site on the weekend to purchase fish from the fisherfolk. The Newcastle Bay fishing community is made up of: 20+ fishers; 10 fishing vessels; The Newcastle Bay Foundation, the main fisherfolk organisation and one of the more active groups in the community.
