The country outlook paper for Viet Nam emphasizes the impacts on forestry of population growth, rapid economic development and the environmental protection programmes currently underway. A history of forest degradation and deforestation has been addressed through rearrangement of forest administration systems, revisions of forest tenure and reforestation efforts. Maintaining supply to the forest products industry constitutes one of several challenges facing Viet Nam to 2020.
