Descripción

Across ASEAN, forest landscapes are central to climate action, biodiversity conservation, disaster risk reduction, and rural livelihoods. Nature-based solutions (NbS) and ecosystem-based approaches (EbA), particularly through social forestry, are increasingly recognised as cost-effective and scalable responses. However, many Member States face challenges in translating these concepts into practical, investable, and monitorable actions, with gaps in quantification, institutional alignment, partnerships, and scaling. In response, and following a request from the ASEAN Secretariat, the UN-REDD Programme—through the SDC-supported ASEAN Social Forestry Initiative—has supported the development of a regional framework to operationalise NbS/EbA in the forestry sector.
