Descripción
Potato has been designated as Lesotho’s special agricultural product under the OCOP initiative and is increasingly produced by small‑scale farmers, though it remains overshadowed by staple crops. Despite expanded production, low yields, limited value addition, and weak policy support have constrained the value chain’s efficiency and ability to meet domestic demand. Strengthening the potato sector offers a strategic opportunity to improve food security, nutrition, employment – particularly for women and youth – and advance inclusive growth, job creation, and import substitution within Lesotho’s agrifood system.
