Resumen
Descripción
The Innovation brief outlines the innovative use of Digital Twins for river basin water management by IWMI. Freshwater systems are vital but face threats from overuse, pollution, and climate change. Digital Twins, virtual representations of complex systems, offer a solution for intelligent decision-making in water management. IWMI's Digital Twin for River Basin Water Management addresses barriers such as sparse monitoring systems and limited resources through co-design, innovation, interactivity, inclusion, and enabling environments. The initiative includes the Limpopo River Basin Digital Twin for transboundary water management and the Somali Region Digital Twin for flood preparedness and resilience building. Key components include drone solutions, open data cube, river discharge and environmental flow charts, reservoir volume monitoring and citizen science integrations. The framework aims to scale globally, supporting data-driven water governance.
