| dc.description | The SWM Community Conservancy Project supports the development of a network of community conservancies (CCs) to improve ecological connectivity and socio-economic sustainability in the Kavango-Zambezi (KaZa) landscape, the world’s largest transfrontier conservation area (TFCA). In Botswana, the project is being implemented in the Habu Community Wildlife Conservancy, which is located in the communal livestock grazing areas of western Ngamiland. This area is also part of the KaZa Khaudum-Ngamiland Wildlife Dispersal Area (WDA), connecting northeast Namibia with northern Botswana. The SWM CC Project is part of the SWM Programme, which is a major international initiative that aims to improve wildlife conservation and food security. We are developing innovative, collaborative and scalable new approaches to conserve wild animals and protect ecosystems, whilst at the same time improving the livelihoods of indigenous peoples and rural communities who depend on these resources. It is being implemented by a dynamic consortium of partners working together with governments and local communities to conserve wildlife and develop a sustainable future. The consortium includes the: - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) - French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) - Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) - Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) The SWM Programme is an Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) initiative, which is being funded by the European Union with co-funding from the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) and the French Development Agency (AFD). | |
