dc.descriptionOutdoor experiments recording spawning ofapple snails [Pomacea patula Baker, 1922] wererecorded during one year. Observations includedspawning of 30 females with total deposited eggsand total hatched snails, all done in triplicate.Another series of indoor trials with 30 spawningsnails and egg masses under controlled experimentalconditions (temperature and light intensity) wererecorded by triplicate. Data were compared at differentwater/air temperatures, 20 to 32°C andtwo light intensities, 60 and 300 lux at spawningplaces. A third series of trials were aimed at determininggrowth performance with 100 spawnedsails per temperature trial under controlled temperatures(22-32°C) and natural light conditions.The results show that the apple snails spawn mainlyfrom August to November when water temperaturesaverage 26°C or more. Hatching efficiency isencouraged by warm air temperatures. Spawningis also affected by light intensity, females spawn at lower temperatures in higher intense illuminatedplaces; at 26°C or higher, the preference reverts.In tropical climate incubation time of larvae reducesand the growth of recently hatched snails tendsto be more successful in warm weather, but theirfinal survival decreases
