Since 1975, the Nansen Programme has supported developing countries in fisheries research and management in their efforts to enhance food security. Fisheries and environmental surveys with the R/V Dr Fridtjof Nansen have been an important and integral part of the programme throughout its phases. A Science Plan has been developed that addresses the overall principles and main thematic areas for the research of the EAF-Nansen Programme, including the use of the research vessel (R/V) Dr Fridtjof Nansen as a key tool for field work.
The science plan is comprised of three pillars: Sustainable fisheries, Oil/Gas/Pollution impacts and cliamte change and focuss on 11 thematic areas, as decribed in this brochure, all in support of the overall objective of the Programme: promoting sustainable fisheries to improve food and nutrition security for partner countries.
