An experimental study was carried out using three groups of african breed sheep, maintained in stahulation and fed with (Pennisetwn purpureum) "elephant grass", from day ten, gruop I of three sheep received 3 gr/kg of "anamo" planta (Petii'eria alliaceae, Pluntier) as additional diet; group 11, also three sheep, was additionally fed with 6 gr/kg of the same plant and a third group, of 2 sheep, was used as control. Clinical test like transaiiiinasas SCOT y SGPT, blood urea nitrogen and colinesterase were detemiined. The animals were siauthtered after 25 and 46 days of treatment adn toxicologic and histopathologic analysis were performed in viscera and central nervous system. initial symptoms like sahvation, excessive lacrimation, bradicardy, poliury, diarrhoea and posterior limbs ataxia were catalogued as parasympathomimetic. At the sante time they showed markedly inhibition of blood colinesterase, lateral decubitus, opisthotonus and muscular atrophy as well as nervous and muscular system lessions. The fourier sings, pius positive results to organophosphorus in the brain and low levels of carbamates in viscera demonstrated resemblance with cases of delayed neurotoxicity by pesticides, since the "anarnu" (Petii'eria alliacea, Plumier) has a toxic fraction with carbamate action. Thee clinical and pathological 6ndings plus the laboratory test results modify the former concepts about the action of the active principles of "anamu" plant.
