In recent years, Europe and Central Asia have faced a series of overlapping crises that have underscored the critical need to develop agrifood systems that are sustainable, integrated, and resilient. Each year, this need becomes more urgent, occupying a central place on both global and national agendas. During the thirty-third session of the FAO Regional Conference in May 2022, Member Countries reaffirmed this priority by calling on FAO to intensify its support for food systems transformation in the region. This includes fostering innovative, sustainable solutions that advance agricultural development and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. To respond to these pressing challenges, FAO launched the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agricultural Products (SAP): One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative in September 2021. This initiative offers a strategic framework for countries to reshape their agrifood systems amidst the ongoing crises in food, energy, and finance.
