The objectives of this seminar on private enterprise and the post-harvest sector were: to encourage the GASGA Executive to discuss the GASGA role in promoting private enterprise in the post-harvest sector; to prepare a GASGA position paper on support to private enterprise in the post-harvest sector; and to identify opportunities for action by the GASGA Joint Secretariat. The topic of the seminar was a response to a current major emphasis by donors. Indicative of that emphasis was a cu rrent study, led by the World Bank, and with contributions from ODA and NRI, on agricultural marketing and processing in Sub-Saharan Africa, the role of the private sector, and how this is influenced by the policy environment.
